Delete your account
You can delete your FishandBeer account and all of its data at any time, directly in the app. No need to contact us, and no need to explain why. If you cannot access the app, there is an email route below.
Delete it in the app
- Open FishandBeer and go to the Profile tab.
- Open Settings, then scroll to the Danger zone.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm with Delete My Account.
What happens next
- Your account is disabled immediately and enters a 30-day grace period.
- During those 30 days you can cancel the deletion simply by signing in again.
- After 30 days everything is permanently erased and cannot be recovered.
- Your username becomes available for someone else to use.
What gets deleted
- Your account and profile, including your display name, bio and profile photo.
- Every catch you have logged, including photos, measurements, notes and locations.
- Your trips and beer counters.
- Your species collection and stats.
- Your social connections: friends, invites, likes.
- Your device and push-notification tokens.
What we have to keep, and why
A small amount of data survives deletion, only where the law requires or allows it, and some of it only in de-identified or pseudonymised form:
- Billing records: 7 years, as required under Estonian accounting law; once your account is deleted we keep them with your user identifier removed. These are payment and invoice records, not your catches.
- Support emails: up to 24 months after the issue is closed, including after account deletion.
- Security and moderation audit logs: de-identified, up to 12 months (24 months for deletion events).
- Moderation reports and statements of reasons: pseudonymised (your identifiers replaced) so moderation history stays intact for the safety of other users. Statements of reasons are deleted after 180 days; pseudonymised reports after up to 24 months.
- Crash reports, if you opted into them: held at Sentry for up to 90 days, with no name, email or location, and not linked to your account.
The Privacy Policy, section 7, lists the exact details. Residual copies in routine backups are purged on the normal backup cycle, within a further 30 days.
A subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play is billed by Apple or Google, not by us. Deleting your account does not cancel it: cancel the subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings, otherwise it will keep renewing.
Take a copy first
Deletion is permanent, so if you want to keep your fishing history, export it before you delete. Go to Settings → Privacy → Export my data and you will get a complete, machine-readable copy of your profile, catches, trips and settings.
If you cannot use the app
If you have lost access to your device or cannot sign in, email legal@fishandbeer.app with the subject "Delete my account", from the email address linked to your account so we can verify it is really you.
We respond within one month, and the request is free. This is your right to erasure under GDPR Article 17. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.
Just want a break?
If you only want to step away, you do not have to delete anything. You can sign out, turn off all notifications in Settings, or make your profile and catches private under Settings → Privacy. Your data stays where it is, and nothing is shared while you are away.
